Parasite Prevention & Treatment

Parasites are a major health risk for our pets, whether or not we can see them.

Another big reason to protect your pet against parasites is that many of these parasites can also jump over to humans! Bringing your companion into Hampton Park for pet deworming and regularly giving pet parasite preventative treatments can save their lives.

External Pet Parasites

    • Ticks
Unfed ticks can be quite small and difficult to see in their hiding places in the nooks and crannies or under a thick coat of fur. The biggest danger to pets is paralysis ticks, which are growing in prevalence in the suburbs here. Narre Warren South area pets need pet parasite preventatives to avoid paralysis ticks, allergic reactions, and even anaemia from blood loss.

    • Fleas
Like ticks, fleas aren’t just a nuisance for your pet – they can cause serious health problems down the road. Fleas are even harder to see and especially difficult to rid your pet, yourself, and home of. They can carry infections that may harm a pet as well as cause dangerous conditions on their own.
  • Internal Pet Parasites

    • Heartworm
One mosquito bite is all it takes to catch heartworm. The heartworm larvae grow and eventually lodge in the main chambers of the heart and lungs, causing heart failure. The medication to kill heartworm is pretty toxic. Pet parasite prevention is the only safe cure.

    • Intestinal Worms
These are generally hookworms, tapeworms, whipworms, and roundworms. Intestinal worms can often be transmitted through external parasites, as is the case with fleas and tapeworms. Most puppies are born with worms, so it’s important to bring your Lynbrook pets in for pet deworming early on. With a combination of pet parasite preventative care and diagnostic testing when concerning symptoms start to appear, we can help make sure your pets stay healthy and parasite-free.

    Pet Parasites and Rabbits

Rabbits are especially prone to myxomatosis, a viral disease spread mainly through mosquito and flea bites. There is no cure or vaccination for this disease in Australia. The easiest way to prevent it is to reduce your pet’s exposure to fleas and mossies by avoiding the outdoors during dawn and dusk. Mosquito netting over the hutch helps, but it’s not guaranteed by any means. The good news is that we can treat rabbits for pet parasites just like how we do with dogs with a spot-on called Advanatix. This repels mossies, kills fleas, and prevents fly eggs from hatching!
